Foot Orthotics – Custom & Prefabricated
Foot orthotics are a highly effective way to improve foot function, reduce pain and prevent further injury. At Michael Eccles Podiatry, we offer both custom-made and prefabricated foot orthotics, tailored to your needs.
What Are Foot Orthotics?
Foot orthotics are specially designed shoe inserts that help correct foot posture, redistribute pressure and improve overall biomechanics.
They are commonly used to manage:
• Plantar fasciitis (heel pain)
• Shin splints
• Knee and hip pain
• Peroneal tendon issues
• ITB syndrome
• Arthritic pain in the feet, ankles and knees
• Support flat feet or high arches
• Unstable gait in some circumstances
• Offload pressure ulcer sites on soles of feet
Custom Foot Orthotics
Custom orthotics are prescribed following a detailed biomechanical assessment. They are designed specifically for your feet and may help:
• Correct abnormal gait patterns
• Offload high-pressure areas
• Improve alignment and function
• Reduce strain on muscles, ligaments and joints
Custom orthotics are particularly beneficial for:
• Chronic pain conditions
• Sports injuries
• Structural abnormalities
• Recurrent corns (heloma dura) and pressure-related issues
• Ulcer management in high risk feet
Prefabricated Foot Orthotics
In some cases, high-quality prefabricated foot orthotics may be suitable. These offer:
• Cost-effective support
• A great option for short-term or less complex needs
Paediatric Foot Orthotics & Gait Plates
We also offer paediatric foot orthotics for foot pain when required and provide gait plates for children experiencing in-toeing (inward walking), where not related to neurological conditions.
Early intervention can support improved walking patterns and possible long-term development outcomes.
